What To Consider When Installing A Glass Backsplash

By William Wood

Many people choose to renovate things like kitchens and bathrooms because these rooms provide the greatest return on your renovation budget. If you do not want to completely renovate the entire room you may want to think about changing something small like a glass backsplash to make your room look like new. Here are some tips and tricks that you can use to add one of these beautiful accent areas to your home.

A backsplash is usually made out of a material that is not easily damaged by water. It is used most often behind a sink of some sort so that any water that splashes up does not damage the wall itself. While some people use paint or decorative finishes to create the look of a backsplash they need to keep in mind that excess moisture could damage paint or other materials.

You may want to think about what kind of surface you want your glass tiles to have. For example, some tiles will have smooth surfaces while others will have rough, uneven ones. You should also think about whether you want the glass you use to have any metallic elements in the tiles themselves. Finally, you should consider whether you want just glass tiles or whether you want a mix of glass and other materials.

You should also think about how much space you have to apply tile to. This may influence the size and shape of the tiles that you use. If you have a small space you may want to use smaller tiles or, if you want to give the illusion of more space you may want to see what larger tiles will look like in the same area.

If you want to tie different areas in a room together, consider using tiles from your back splash as accents in other areas of the room. Often, a tile installer who is working in California will use some tiles from a backsplash in a tub or shower surround. It can provide a great accent and give a room a very coordinated and polished look.

You can find individual tiles as well as ones that are attached to a mesh backing. If you are just laying tile for the first time you may find that it will be easier if you use ones that are attached to mesh. They provide more surface for adhesive to attach to and also make it easy for you to keep proper spacing.

If you are considering putting tiles up yourself you might want to make sure you have the right tools on hand. You will need something to cut unwanted tiles off of the sheet, an adhesive to stick them to the wall and grout to apply after the tiles are on the wall.

There are also tile installation experts that will be able to do the work for you. If you have purchased your backsplash tiles from a home improvement store you should be able to ask them who does their installing. If you did not buy the tiles from a local store you may want to ask around to see who is reputable and affordably priced.
