Cleaning Methods For Window Treatments

By Arthur Lee

Window treatments are the interior decorating elements, usually in places like Fairfield County CT, which are placed in, over, on, or around the windows. Usually, the purpose of these is installing the elements in order to enhance the room and window aesthetics. There are lot of styles that can be installed and these types may depend on where these are to be installed.

Another purpose of window treatments aside from decoration is for the protection of accessories, furniture, and flooring from damages due to the heat of sunlight. Some dirt and dust would possibly form into it, causing some respiratory issues and also allergies. So if you want these allergens to be cut down, follow these steps when cleaning Fairfield County CT window treatments.

Curtains and drapes cleaning. All materials are attached with instructions or labels into it so make sure that you will read it with understanding. Through this, proper washing instructions can be followed, thus, avoiding damage. If the label has specified to not machine wash but instead, do the hand washing.

Remove the dust from the fabric treatments. You may use a vacuum cleaner for panels and make sure to set it to its lowest setting for suction. Use a baby powder and apply an amount of it to a toothbrush for removing the stains, smudges, or spots. Then scrub the spot gently.

Also, when fabrics are being dried, be sure that the instructions in label are followed properly before you are going to place it inside a dryer. If it is stated in the label that drying would be fine, your dryer must be set to low heat or to cool setting. For avoiding the materials to shrink, while still damp, remove it out from a dryer.

Blinds cleaning. Remove first the particles of dusts from blinds. The blinds may either be taken out from the window or just hang it while doing the method. Get your vacuum cleaner and start from the top with either brush attachment or just a handheld vacuum. Soft cloth or feather dusters may be used as well for dust removal. Same method to be performed on the other side.

For the vinyl and plastic blinds, get an all purpose type of cleaner then spray it to the material or use a sponge. These may also be cleaned using the garden hose or may also be washed in a bathtub that is filled with warm water and mild liquid soap. For wood blinds, use the surface cleaner designed specifically for the woods. Make sure not to make it very wet to avoid wood warping.

Cleaning shades. A vacuum cleaner is used for this method. The vacuum should have the lowest setting of suction. Just like other methods, follow the label and instructions carefully. Usually, fabric types of treatments or shades are required to be dry cleaned. So avoid the use of a water solution when the specification is for dry cleaning only.

Plastic treatments should be wiped only with a clean cloth which is dipped in a mixture of liquid soap and water. Use as well the all purpose cleaner for the removal of spots and stains and gently scrub. And lastly is for the honeycomb types. These are to be cleaned with liquid soap and also a warm water. Blot directly the spots and the stains. Avoid on rubbing the areas blotted to avoid damages on the texture.
