Valuable Information Relating To Rockwook Insulation

By Alxa Robin

Rockwool is a type of type of glass also known as mineral wool used in insulation purposes. Another name that it is commonly known is mineral wool. During its manufacture, it is compacted more with a less friable nature, giving a moderately stiffened texture that can be rolled into sheets. It is slightly elastic to make it easy to bend for ease in cutting into various shapes and to make it easy to fasten when using nails. It usually requires high melting points and extreme heating temperatures as compared to the common fiberglass hence ideal for rockwook insulation purposes.

In manufacturing rock wool, the process involves melting the rock into molten state before winding it into fibers, held strongly and tightly bound in a web like in the case of creating a fiberglass. When it has been created, the rock wool retains heat by trapping pockets of air that help in insulation. It is a good insulator as well as a good sound proofing material.

Most uses commonly include both residential and commercial insulation. Due to its high melting point, it is mostly used in fire stops, fire proofing and even cooking appliances. It is popularly used as a medium for hydroponics and gardening. You need to choose an ideal insulation material for each particular usage since this will determine whether you will attain the most value for money.

The rock wool fibers hold water well and enable enough air for root growth for support structure. Rockwool should not be used in residential situations that have persistent high moisture levels. This is because the fibers can suspend moisture and provide a medium for growth of mould.

When basalt is used in rock wool it creates rock wool blanket insulation which is better in heat insulation. It is as well much cheaper comparing to the normal fiberglass. Main features include, low heat conduction properties, good insulation properties for large diameter pipelines like steam pipes and for smaller radius of surface equipment.

The main features and properties of this type of insulation include, low heat conducting, good heat insulation properties for big diameter pipelines such as those for oil and for smaller radius of surface equipment. Slag wool is made in forms of blankets to controlled densities while checking its thickness ensuring optimum insulating value. They are highly used in power plants, steam pipelines, dairy and transport tankers, pressure vessels, industrial baking ovens, dryers and other areas

Pipe insulation is an acoustic insulation method applied in pipe works. It is made from non-combustible mineral fibers. It works best because of its high rigidity and strength as well. Some of its common features include its shock-repellent effect and external shock resistance. Pipe insulators have a high temperature resistance.

They are applied in air conditioning equipments, central heating systems. High moisture density areas are known to have high rates of pipe corrosiveness and pie insulation helps in reducing this problem. Environments with below freezing point temperatures also may make the water in pipes to freeze. When water freezes, it expands and this may cause bursting of the pipes thus making it necessary to insulate the pipes.
