Effective Tips For Kitchen Renovation

By Loreley G. Weidner

When it comes to designing and decorating a home, every little section of it is equally important - each room must have its own unique flavour which will separate it from the rest, but will still fit with your theme. While both the living room and the bedrooms get plenty of attention, it is actually the kitchen that gives you loads of creative freedom. So if you are not happy with the look and feel of your current kitchen you should seriously think about Kitchen Renovation. Custom renovation is the is the 'full throttle' version of things and you will get the entire thing here as you can change pretty much every aspect of your kitchen and even bring down a wall or two (if your home permits that) to add more space as well.

Knock down a wall or two: The most obvious place to start with any tiny kitchen, and easily the most satisfying... Some walls will have load bearing properties and you'll need to ask your builder about what's possible, but even if you can't take an entire wall out there's often still an opportunity to slice out a pretty big chunk of wall around the load bearing bits to achieve the same effect. Knocking open a galley kitchen to turn it into an 'L' shaped kitchen, for example (and maybe sticking an island bench in) is usually the biggest and best thing you can do with a light-starved, claustrophobic old kitchen.

Use clever cupboard hardware: One of the biggest issues with kitchen cupboards is that deep, inaccessible corners are hard to reach - and they waste space. Lazy susans, pull out pantries and other contraptions of a similar nature are called 'speciality hardware' - and there are some engineering masterpieces on offer these days. Even just installing nice big drawers down low can make things far easier to reach. Sometimes it pays off to install wider cabinets and drawers too. A 900mm drawer or cabinet door is likely to cost less than twice the price of one that's 450mm.

Use freestanding cabinetry: This works for the same reason that open faced wall cabinets do. Freestanding cabinetry's basically cabinets that don't have kickboards - and they give the impression of more space at floor level. Think carefully about task lighting: One of the problems with small kitchen spaces is that you're going to have a lot of shadows going everywhere.

Storage and organization: Storage and organization is key to a functional and eye-appealing kitchen. If installing new cabinets isn't an option, consider installing shelves instead. There are many other attractive storage and organization materials available on the market for a well-organized kitchen that are surprisingly affordable.
